If you work occasionally as a lone worker and there is a low risk of your facing a difficult situation then Peoplesafe on your own mobile phone can be an effective solution.

It is recognised that for some lone workers the type and nature of work, and the frequency of lone working does not justify the purchase of a dedicated lone worker safety device.

If the worker has a mobile phone it is possible to allow that worker a measure of safety appropriate to their lone working.

The mobile phone will be programmed to speed dial two numbers;

AMBER Number – In advance of a meeting where the user will be lone working they will be able to call into the ‘Peoplesafe Server’ where they will be invited to use a pin to verify themselves. Once verification is given the user will record a message giving precise location, activity and timing. At the end of the message the user will be invitied to enter a 4-digit time on the 24 hour clock equating to the end of their appointment.

If the user does not confirm the end of their safety at the end appointment then an escalation process will begin.

RED Number - If at any time the user feels suspicious or concerned for their safety, they can, if it is safe to do so, press the speed dial number on their phone which will connect to our 24/7 manned ‘red alert’ line. An operator will be able to listen in to the sounds around the phone and enter into a 2 way call if required. The operator will provide any support required by that user.

LOCATION by LBS – All mobile phones within the Peoplesafe scheme will be register such that a location can be deduced via the mobile phone network or LBS. Phones will need to be registered and users give their consent to allow us to access this location information.

THERE ARE LIMITATIONS AS TO THE EFFECTIVENESS OF A MOBILE PHONE AS A SAFETY DEVICE.

CAUTION should be exercised when considering the use of a mobile phone when in a conflict situation – evidence shows that a phone is likely to INFLAME a difficult situation. The lone worker has to be equipped/trained to make a decision as to whether it is going to assist or worsen a situation if they reach for their mobile phone.

CAUTION should also be excercised if a mobile phone ‘keyguard’ system is in use, this will mean it is not possible to use the speed dial button without first turning off keyguard.

Discuss your requirements with the Peoplesafe sales team.
